Hatim, however, picks up the gem and, instead of wishing for anything, smashes it on the floor .
Hatim then states the answer aloud:
The gem shatters into a thousand pieces. As it breaks, a blinding light fills the hall. The stone statues of the king and the citizens slowly return to flesh and blood. The curse is lifted.
