Aki gasped. The room was filled with strange, antique objects: old dolls, taxidermied animals, and dusty vases. In the center of the room, a large, leather-bound book lay open on a desk.
The dormitory was quiet, except for the creaks and groans of the old building. Sora led Aki to the third floor, where the student rooms were located. They stopped in front of room 304, which was rumored to be empty.
Suddenly, the lights flickered and died, plunging the room into darkness. Aki heard a faint whispering in her ear, a soft, raspy voice that seemed to come from all around her.
Aki spun around, but Sora was nowhere to be seen. Panicked, she called out Sora's name, but there was no response.
Sora grasped Aki's hand and turned the handle. The door creaked open, revealing a dimly lit room with a single, flickering fluorescent light.
As they approached the dormitory, Sora suddenly stopped and sniffed the air. "Aki, do you smell that?" she asked, her eyes sparkling with curiosity.
Aki raised an eyebrow. "Haunted? Don't be ridiculous, Sora."
But Sora was insistent. She pushed open the creaky door and stepped inside. Aki followed, her heart pounding in her chest.
