But the real A-plot involves his father, George Sr. In a desperate attempt to help the high school football team win a game, George asks Sheldon to use his "smart people logic" to analyze the opposing team’s plays. The result? Sheldon reduces football to a simple algorithm, and the team wins.
If you thought the Cooper household would catch a break after the tornado drama of Season 1, think again. The Season 2 premiere of Young Sheldon , titled (available now in HDTVRip), proves that growing up a genius in East Texas comes with a whole new set of growing pains.
Spoiler Warning for S02E01
However, hubris follows. George gets offered a head coaching position at a rival school (Rice). The tension is palpable as Mary watches her husband flirt with a career move that would take them away from Meemaw’s orbit.
The episode picks up with Sheldon at his most Sheldon. He has discovered a new "annoyance": the high-pitched buzz of a fluorescent light in the school hallway. While his classmates hear nothing, Sheldon hears a frequency that is slowly driving him toward a meltdown.
S02E01 is a strong return to form. It balances the precociousness of Sheldon with the genuine heart of the Cooper family struggling to stay middle-class. The "training wheels" metaphor works beautifully—Sheldon is learning how to navigate social hierarchy, George is learning how to handle ambition, and Missy is literally learning how not to fall.
