He was in the basement. The endless stairs room. But the stairs weren’t endless. There were 64 steps. At the bottom was a door labeled “DEBUG.” Inside, a single room. A white table. On it, a controller with no wires. And in the corner, a tiny, low-poly child. Not Mario. A child in overalls and a red cap, staring at a CRT that showed Leo’s own bedroom. His own face, reflected in his paused TV.
