The pointless PowerPoint also serves a perverse social function. For the presenter, slides become a shield. As long as there are words on the screen, the speaker can claim to have prepared. Reading bullet points aloud requires no understanding, no charisma, and no risk. The slides guarantee a minimum performance, but they also cap the maximum.
