The Abduction On the evening of June 24, 2002, 15-year-old Kara Robinson was at a friend’s apartment complex in Columbia, South Carolina. While standing near a parked car, a man approached her, held a gun to her side, and forced her into a large plastic storage container in the back of his vehicle.

The man was , a 38-year-old appliance repairman with a dark history of stalking and violence. He drove Kara to his apartment in nearby West Columbia, where she would be held captive for the next 18 hours. The Captivity Once inside Evonitz’s second-floor apartment, he bound her to a specially made "rape rack" — a wooden frame with restraints at the wrists and ankles. He sexually assaulted her repeatedly throughout the night.
