On screen, Toriko sniffed the air. His nostrils flared. Then, impossibly, he turned. His massive, muscular frame pivoted, and his intense eyes looked directly into the camera. Into Leo's soul.
Komatsu, looking terrified, tugged Toriko’s arm. "Toriko-san, the dimensional barrier—it's fragile here! Don't!"
And underneath it, a new, tiny line of text appeared that he had never noticed before.
Leo froze, a cheesy puff halfway to his mouth.
The second hand emerged. Toriko was pulling himself through the screen, his broad shoulders distorting the LCD into a white-hot galaxy of pain. The scent of roasting meat and ozone filled the room.
Leo was a Gourmet Hunter of a very specific kind. His hunting grounds weren't the treacherous Human World or the deadly Gourmet World. His battlefield was a cramped, sock-strewn bedroom, and his prey was bandwidth. His weapon of choice? A cracked laptop and the sacred, pop-up-ridden shrine of anime: Gogoanime.
Episode 1 dropped him into a scene he didn't recognize. Toriko, Komatsu, and a scarred, silent version of Coco stood before a waterfall that flowed upward . The animation was hyper-realistic, almost too crisp.
